Reigning Miss World, Ms. Vanessa Ponce de Leon paid a visit to the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital on Friday, 5th July 2019, to spend time with the children on admission at the hospital as part of the Miss World Foundation’s social interventions.

Her visit was to interact and inspire children at the hospital, who are currently undergoing treatment for various orthopedic conditions and meet some patients of their sister organization, the Miss Ghana Foundation has supported in the past.  She was accompanied by Julia Morley, Chairwoman of Miss World Organization and Founder of the Beauty with a Purpose Charity, Inna Patty, CEO of Miss Ghana Organization, Exclusive Events Ghana, Miss Ghana 2018, Nana Ama Benson and her runner up, Elizabeth Mclean and a host of other reigning African Queens including Miss Nigeria 2018, Anita Ukah and her runner up.

During her visit, she played various board games with the children on admission at the facility and toured the hospital children’s ward to encourage children who could not join their colleagues for board games at the children’s activity Centre due to their condition.

Ms. Julia Morley in her remarks commended the hospital’s CEO, FOCOS Founder and President, Prof. Oheneba-Boachie-Adjei and his team for their life-changing interventions for the children. “It is so heart-warming to know that all these kids will become happy and live longer after their treatment here at the hospital and most importantly, this gives me hope that there are good people out there who are doing their best to make this possible; indeed FOCOS is a shining light in Africa,” she said. She further commended the Miss Ghana Foundation for their continuous support for FOCOS and promised to include FOCOS in the Miss World organization’s charity agenda.

The Miss Ghana Foundation over the past two years has sponsored full surgeries of three patients who were in critical need of orthopedic surgery to the tune of about $60,000. All three sponsored patients were present to express their gratitude to the Foundation and interacted with the reigning Miss World.

Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei thanked the Miss World Organization for their visit and commended the Miss Ghana Foundation for their support, as he encouraged other donors to follow their example. The FOCOS CEO, Founder and President made an appeal to philanthropists globally to support the FOCOS endowment campaign which aimed to reduce the over 2000 backlog of patients who required surgery at the hospital.

Also present during the delegation’s visit were: Dr. Joseph Ogyaadu, Medical Director at the hospital, Dr. Irene Wulff, Associate Medical Director, Dr. Gerhard Ofori-Amankwah, Director of Medical Services, Madam Mavis Kwarteng, Director of Nursing and Vivian Quarshie, Administrative Manager.
